Preparing Your Quilt for Quilting

To ensure that we can efficiently and correctly load your quilt we need you to ensure the following requirements are met :-

1/. Wadding and backing fabrics must be supplied 3” larger on each side (or 6” overall) than your quilt size to ensure there is enough fabric to load your quilt on the machine.

2/. If it’s important to you please mark the top of your quilt with a safety pin and tag.

3/. Ensure your backing fabric is ironed and free from creases. If you have pieced your backing then please ensure that you trim the seem at the join and iron flat.

4/. Ensure your quilt top is ironed so the seems are pressed flat in the direction that you require.

5/. Your wadding and backing must be cut straight and be square. This is really important. (note: We will apply and additional $10 fee if we have to square or straighten your backing or wadding). If required you must piece your own backing.

6/. Trim the loose threads from the front and back of your quilt. Trimming loose threads from the back is particularly important if the threads are dark and some of the quilt patches are light in colour. Dark threads may be visible through the finished quilt.

7/. Don’t pin your quilt together – just supply the ironed quilt, backing and wadding neatly folded in a suitable bag that we can return your finished quilt in.

To estimate your quilting costs, use the formula below :-

Calculating Your Quilting Costs
1/. Measure your quit top in inches - Length & Width
2/. Multiply the two figures - Length x Width
3/. Divide the answer by 144 (to get sq ft)
4/. Multiply by the appropriate quilting rate ($4, $3.50 or $2.50)

Note: Add the standard $15.00 thread fee to get your total quilting fee. This does not include costs of wadding or backing.

     Therefore: (L” x W” /144 x Quilting Rate $) + $15.00 = Quilting Fee
